Media production was a part of my life for 30 years and I have lots of awards to show for it. I don’t regret a minute of it … but now I’ll only get involved in a creative or an advisory role.
But narrating, scripting, or script doctoring? Now that’s another matter.
Housing and Urban Development (HUD) – Wrote and produced many film and slide presentations on a variety of topics from installing seamless floor covering and fog-dry spray painting to public displays at national events
U.S. Navy – Provided script-writing services which often involved national travel or cruises on naval warships for background research.
U.S. Postal Service – Wrote and produced MANY different types of films including an entire series of Public Service Announcements publicizing new commemorative stamps. I also produced educational and instructional films one of which was translated into three languages and was in use for 19 years.
Veterans’ Administration – Provided production services for a Public Service Announcement
National Bureau of Standards – I burned down six mobile homes in order to film the way fire spread in those structures to help the NBS set the safety standards for manufactured homes.
U.S. Secret Service – I provided training scripts and AV consulting services
General Services Administration – I had a blanket contract through the GSA to provide editorial services for any agency of federal government. This contract was annually renewed for 15 years.
Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) – I was the first Director of News and Information Services when the agency was first created and developed the procedures to be used in communicating with the public in natural disasters. That role also was tasked with overseeing the agency’s film, motion picture, and television operations.
Federal Disaster Assistance Administration (FDAA) – I coordinated the public information efforts at dozens of Natural Disaster sites throughout the United States. For major events like the incident at Three Mile Island, I was the national spokesman from the Washington office. In the field I was responsible for providing photo coverage of various kinds of disasters for training future disaster workers.
American Red Cross – Wrote scripts to recruit blood donors and to train Red Cross disaster workers.
World Jewish Congress – Provided still photo coverage of their Annual Convention in Washington, DC
COMSAT – I provided a formal portrait of their Board of Directors for use in an annual report.
United Association (of Journeymen and Apprentices of the Plumbing, Pipefitting and Sprinkler Fitting Industry of the United States and Canada) – I wrote, produced, and presented a multi-projector keynote presentation at their Annual Convention at Purdue University
KPMG Peat Marwick – I provided still and motion picture coverage of this firm’s investigation into a failed HUD project in Taylor, Michigan
Roy Jorgenson Associates – I scripted and produced slide/filmstrip training presentations on highway construction and highway signage. I was also responsible for having the completed projects translated into Portuguese and distributed in Brazil.
DuPont Corporation – I was contracted to produce video for a series of experimental training programs that required on-location videography in Finland, Sweden, and Denmark
