About

Who Am I ?

Hi!  I’m Bill Williams.  I wanted to share some of my experiences with you to show ways in which I might be able to solve some of your communications problems.  Some of the information you’ll find on this website could lead you to a solution.

For 20 years I worked with dozens of trade associations and government agencies in Washington, DC.  Depending on the clients’ needs, I provided the specialized communications expertise that they lacked.  For example:

As a registered lobbyist for the Independent Media Producers Association I testified in House and Senate hearings on bills of interest to their industry.   Having a security clearance I produced and narrated classified military films. For four years the Federal Disaster Assistance Administration called upon me to be the government spokesman and handle the Public Information efforts for dozens of natural and man-made disasters.

Later, when the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) was created, I was asked to accept a year-long contract to serve as that new agency’s first Director of News and Information and to establish plans and procedures to be used in future national disasters nationwide.

When I was 18 I got my start as a photojournalist and then soon became a newspaper reporter, a radio announcer and manager, a television producer, director, and manager, and then a network executive. With a Bachelor’s and Masters in Broadcasting and Journalism, I’ve also done additional work towards a doctorate in Mass Communications.  Those academic credentials resulted in my having been on the faculties or administrations of four major universities. My specialty is Instructional Television and I oversaw the production of more than a hundred instructional programs and was an ITV consultant to a dozen colleges and universities. Not being enamored of the academic life, I opened my own Communications Consulting firm in Washington, DC and ran that for 20 years.

Since “Retirement” strikes me as a boring concept, I’m now seeking “interesting” projects that need an experienced communications professional. Do you have something that might entice me?  There are a variety of subjects on the menu above so that you can explore the possibilities with a few clicks.

Then you can click on “Contacts” and tell me about your current need.
